DDGS
Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS) is a byproduct resulting from the bioethanol production process. It is produced when the starch fraction of cereals (like grain sorghum or maize) is fermented to produce ethanol. Rich in protein, fibre, and essential nutrients, DDGS serves as a highly nutritious animal feed ingredient. In markets such as the US and Europe, it is widely used in the diets of poultry, swine, cattle, and even aquatic species, offering a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to traditional feed components.
The Mabele Fuels bioethanol plant will generate approximately 107 000 tons of DDGS annually, whereas total animal feed production in South Africa is approximately 12 million tons per year. By supplying this valuable byproduct to the animal feed market, Mabele Fuels will minimise waste, enhance resource utilisation, and contribute to the overall circular economy.
